WING SURGE TANK FLOAT SWITCH - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
______________________________________________
TASK 28-21-12-715-001
1. Wing Surge Tank Float Switch Operational Test_____________________________________________
A. General
(1)
The wing surge tank float switch operational test examines each float switch operation. During the test a ground is applied to the fueling shutoff relay. This tells the fuel quantity processor unit to close all the refuel valves.
(2)
The wing surge tank float switches operate when the surge tank fuel quantity is approximately between 27 to 50 gallons (102 to 190 liters). The quantity of fuel required to actuate the switch is dependent on wing loading and airplane attitude.
WARNING: FAILURE TO OBEY THE APPROVED FUEL PRECAUTIONS CAN CAUSE THE
_______ IGNITION OF THE FUEL FUMES. THE FUEL TANK VENTS ARE IN EACH WINGTIP. THE GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT MUST NOT BE PUT IN THESE AREAS BECAUSE DANGEROUS AND EXPLOSIVE FUEL FUMES CAN COLLECT.
(3)
All usual precautions must be followed during the pressure refuel operation. Use caution to prevent fuel leakage from the fuel tank vents. If leakage does occur, the fuel operation must be stopped immediately to decrease the risk of fire (AMM 12-11-01/301).
