Refueling - Maintenance Tips
(1)
When you preselect a fuel quantity between 87,000 lbs and 88,000 lbs, (39,000 kgs and 40,000 kgs) the EICAS status message M2/M3 < 6K SIG can show 60 minutes after the refuel. The EICAS messages can occur when the usual fuel schedule distribution causes a M2/M3 single point sensors disagree condition (one tank sensor covered by fuel, the other tank sensor not covered). To clear the EICAS message, transfer the fuel to make sure M2/M3 single point sensors agree (both wet or both dry).

2. Manually Open the Refuel Valve (Fig. 201)______________________________
A. General
(1)
Do this task during a refuel operation if a refuel valve does not operate electrically.
(2)
There is no automatic refuel valve shutoff or overfill protection when a refuel valve is opened manually. If you put too much fuel into the tank, fuel will overfill the tank and enter the surge tank(s). If the fuel flow is not stopped, the surge tank will overfill and an overboard fuel spill will occur.

If it is necessary to manually open a CWT refuel valve, do these steps:
(a)
Make sure the ground lockpins for the landing gear are installed.
WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN AMM 32-00-30/201
_______ WHEN YOU INSTALL THE LOCKS. IF THE LOCKS ARE NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED, THE FAST MOVEMENT OF THE DOORS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(b) Install the wing and body gear door locks (AMM 32-00-30/201).
