Put the VTO Switch to the Usual Position


 S 912-024
 (1)  Do these steps to put the VTO override switch to the usual position:
 CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE FUEL QUANTITY PROCESSOR UNIT BEFORE YOU
_______ DO THE PROCEDURE FOR DEVICES THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FUEL QUANTITY PROCESSOR UNIT.
 (a)  
Do the procedure for devices that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (AMM 20-41-02/201).

 (b)  
Go to the M7860 fuel quantity processor unit (View A).

 (c)  
Put the VTO override switch to the usual position.

 (d)  
Install the VTO cover plate (View C).

 (e)  
Close the FQPU hinged door (View B).

 (f)  
Close the screws (eight locations) from the M7860 FQPU access cover.

 (g)  
Close the electronics access door, 125B.

Continue with this procedure: Refuel Operation With an Inoperative Fuel Quantity Indicator (AMM 12-11-06/301).

 (a)
Make sure the fuel quantity indicators do not flash.

 6.  Remove Fuel From the Surge Tank_______________________________
 A. General
 (1)  
Do this task to remove fuel from the surge tank.

 (2)  
This task is necessary if the red overfill light or a fuel spill occurs during a refuel operation (AMM 12-11-06/301).

Find out Which Fuel Tank is Overfilled

Look at the TANK USABLE FUEL QUANTITIES decal on the P42 panel.

Use the fuel quantity indicators or fuel measuring sticks to find out which tank has overfilled.

 (3)  
Compare the tank usable fuel quantity with the actual fuel quantity.

Make a record of the tank that exceeds the usable fuel quantity.

Remove Fuel from the Surge Tank

 (1)  
METHOD 1; Wait for 15 minutes to let the fuel drain back into the inboard main tank(s).

 (2)  
METHOD 2;
 Use the sump drain tool to quickly drain the surge tank(s)
 (AMM 12-11-10/301).

 

 NOTE: The surge tank that has fuel is usually on the same wing
____ (left or right) as the fuel tank with an overfill condition. If the CWT has overfilled, it is possible that the left and right surge tanks have fuel.
