Remove Seals
(a)
Slide scraper adapter (11) and scraper ring (10) down inner cylinder onto removed gland nut.
(b)
Examine outside diameter of lower bearing. If corrosion is present or coating is damaged, remove shock strut (Ref Removal/Installation) and replace bearing.
(c)
Do this task on the landing gear: "Remove Gear Ground Lock Assembly" (AMM 32-00-01/201).
CAUTION: HAVE EQUIPMENT OR MANPOWER READY TO SUPPORT WEIGHT OF
_______ INNER CYLINDER AS CYLINDER COMES OUT. INNER CYLINDER CAN BE DAMAGED IF DROPPED.
(d)
Slowly roll gear inboard until inner cylinder can be removed.
(e)
Remove upper bearing outer shell (19A) and inner shell (19B).
(f)
Remove snubbing valve (20), spacer (2), and seal adapter (4) from inner cylinder.
(g)
To prevent damage to the adapter, use a plastic tool to cut active static seal O-ring (3). 1) Remove backup rings (15) from outer groove in seal adapter
(4).
CAUTION: EXTREME CARE MUST BE EXERCISED IF THERE ARE NICKS OR
_______ SCRATCHES ON THE INNER CYLINDER. THESE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEAL ADAPTER AS THE SEALS SLIDE ALONG THE SURFACE OF THE INNER CYLINDER.
(h) Remove active dynamic seal (21) and backup rings from around inner cylinder.

Install Seals
(a)
Coat new static seals, dynamic seals, and backup rings with hydraulic fluid and a light coat of petrolatum.
(b)
Carefully stretch and slip new lubricated active dynamic seal assembly (21) over and down inner cylinder to position against washer (6).
(c)
Carefully stretch spare O-rings and seal assembly, necessary to replace missing spares, and slip over and down inner cylinder and lower bearing into respective grooves in lower bearings.
(d)
Carefully stretch new lubricated active static seal O-ring (3) only enough to slip over and down into outer groove of seal adapter (4) and install a new backup ring (15) on each side of O-ring.
(e)
Slide seal adapter (4) over inner cylinder and down on to washer (6).
(f)
Slide spacer (2) over inner cylinder with double stepped side down.

Install snubbing valve (20) with flange up. Add upper bearing (19A and 19B).
(h)
Check to ensure there is no twist in any of seals.
(i)
Use the C32018-1 to protect the seals from the threads of the outer cylinder before you put the inner cylinder into the outer cylinder.
(j)
Swing outer cylinder into position to admit insertion of inner cylinder.
(k)
Slowly roll gear outboard until inner cylinder is inserted.
(l)
Engage main gear downlock and insert ground lock assemblies (AMM 32-00-01/201).
(m)
Slide lower bearing against newly installed seal and slide bearing and seal adapter as a unit into outer cylinder.
(n)
Slide scraper adapter (11) with scraper ring (10) into position against lower bearing.
