Prepare the container with liquid nitrogen.


 WARNING: USE CAUTION WHEN YOU USE THE FROZEN BEARINGS AND TOOLS.

 (b)  Put the bearing fully into the liquid nitrogen for a sufficient quantity of time to permit equal and full cooling.

 (c)  Remove the bearing from the liquid nitrogen and immediately install it in the bearing housing.
 NOTE: There should be no metal to metal interference during
____
 installation.

 (d)  
Push the bearing down into its position with the mandrel.

 (e)  
Make sure that the bearing is correctly aligned in the bearing housing.

 (f)  
Permit the bearing assembly to get to room temperature.

 (g)  
Remove all the unwanted corrosion preventive compound with a dry, clean cloth.

 (h)  
Install the new ring nut.

 (i)  
Hold the bearing assembly in the holding fixture and use a spanner wrench to tighten the ring nut 50 to 100 pound-feet.

 (j)  
Make sure that the ball in the bearing can be turned by hand.

 (k)  
Drill 0.191 +0.011/-0.000-inch diameter holes through the ring nut from the eight opposite holes in the bearing housing.

 (l)  
Install the rivets to lock the ring nut to the bearing housing.

 (5)  Install the bearing assembly on the trunnion link and install the trunnion link (AMM 32-11-11/401).

 MAIN GEAR FORWARD TRUNNION BEARING - INSPECTION/CHECK

 1. Main Gear Forward Trunnion Bearing Inspection (Fig.601)

 A. General
 (1)  
This procedure gives a task to measure the diametral clearance for the bearing. The diametral clearance of the forward trunnion bearing measured (between the trunnion link and the bearing housing) must not be more than 0.030 inch for shrink fit bearing assemblies, or 0.050 inch for threaded bearing assemblies, in all direction. If the clearance is more than this limit, remove the subsequent parts for examination and replacement:

 (a)  
The bearing

 (b)  
The wing fitting sleeve

 B.
Equipment and Materials

 (1)  
Dial indicator gage

 (2)  
Wood 2 x 4 (inches) approximately 8 feet long

 (3)  
Axle jack

 C.
Prepare for the Examination


 S 866-002
 (1)  Lift the airplane until the main landing gear is clear of the ground (Refer to Chapter 7, Lift The Airplane).

 WARNING: DO NOT LOOSEN THE VALVE BODY UNLESS YOU FULLY DEFLATE THE
_______ SHOCK STRUT. THE AIR PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE BODY OUT AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (2)  
Remove the dust cap from the air valve and loosen the air valve with a maximum of two turns.

 (a)  
Keep the air valve open.


 NOTE: The fluid in shock strut will have bubbles immediately
____ when you decrease the pressure to the ambient. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent the leak of fluid through the air valve.
 D. Main Gear Forward Trunnion Bearing Examination
 S 226-011
 (1)  
FOR THREADED BEARING ASSEMBLY WITH RIVETS; examine the rivets on the bearing assembly of the main landing gear.

 (a)  
Clean the area around the rivet heads.
