Prepare to Remove the Damper Assembly of the Main Landing Gear

Make sure that all the ground lockpins (AMM 32-00-01/201) are installed.

Remove the pressure from the hydraulic system A and the hydraulic reservoir (AMM 29-15-00/201).

Disconnect the hydraulic line from the damper, seal the line with a plug, and seal the damper with a cap.

Remove the Damper Assembly of the Main Landing Gear

Remove the bolt that attaches the support bracket (5) of the electrical harness to the damper assembly (13).
(2)
Examine the washer and the flanged bushing (4).
(3)
Remove the checknut (6), the lockbolt (9), and the lock washer (7).

Disconnect the hydraulic line guides (12) from the damper and safety the hydraulic lines until they are clear of the torsion link.
(5)
Remove the apex nut (8) and the thrust washer (10).

Lift the main gear with an axle jack until the tires are off the ground (AMM 07-11-31/201).

Move apart the apex connection of the upper and lower torsion links (1, 15) as follows:
NOTE: This will help in the removal of the damper attachment bolt

Apply a forward and aft force to the wheels until the apex connetion of the upper and lower torsion links (1, 15) move apart.
(b)
Or, put a 2 X 4 wood beam between the shock strut and the outboard wheel and do the next step: 1) Hold the 2 x 4 wood beam at the 100-inch arm from the shock
strut centerline and slowly apply a counterclokwise pull until the apex connection of the upper and lower torsion links (1, 15) move apart.

Hold the torsion links and remove the damper attachment bolt (3).

Pull out the damper assembly (13), lift the upper torsion link (1) and remove the apex thrust washer (11).
