 CAUTION: REMOVE ALL UNWANTED MASTINOX FROM ALL THE SURFACES THAT WILL BE
_______ LUBRICATED. IF YOU APPLY MASTINOX TO THE JOINTS THAT TURN, FAILURE OF THE LANDING GEAR TO EXTEND OR RETRACT CAN OCCUR.
 (a)  
ON AIRPLANES WITH GLAND NUT THAT HAS LUBE FITTINGS; apply MIL-C-11796, Class 3, corrosion preventive compound to the threads of the gland nut (12) and the outer cylinder (17).

 (b)  
ON AIRPLANES WITH GLAND NUT THAT HAS PLUGS; apply BMS 3-27 (Mastinox 6856K) corrosion preventive compound to the threads of the gland nut (12) and the outer cylinder (17).

 CAUTION: THE GLAND NUT (12) AND THE OUTER CYLINDER (17) MAY HAVE
_______ BEEN REWORKED (OVERSIZE). MAKE SURE YOU IDENTIFY THEM AS REWORKED (OVERSIZED) AND KEPT AS A SET.
 (c)  
Install the gland nut (12) on to the outer cylinder (17).

 (d)  
Tighten the gland nut (12) 50 to 400 pound-feet lube torque.

 1)  Turn the gland nut (12) to the nearest slot to allow the installation of the lockplate (1).

 (e)  
Measure the distance the gland nut (12) extends below the outer cylinder (17).


 NOTE: The dimension you will get here must equal the dimension
____ you recorded in step G.(1), within 0.01 inch.
 (f)  Measure the full stroke of the inner cylinder (16) by manually compressing then extending it.
 NOTE: The full stroke dimension should fall in the range given
____ in Figure 801, (Sheet 3). If not, do the next step that follow.
 1)  Disassemble the shock strut and look for missing parts or parts that are not installed correctly.
 (g)  
Install gland nut lockplate (1).

 H.  
Restore Airplane to Normal Configuration

 (1)  
Do this task: "Service Main Landing Gear Shock Strut-Procedure II (Strut dry after repair, or airplane on jacks)" (AMM 12-15-31/301).

 (2)  
Wipe exposed inner cylinder with hydraulic fluid.

 (3)  
Do this task: "Lower airplane"(AMM 07-11-11/201).

 (4)  
Check for leaks at gland nut.

 (5)  
Remove airplane jacks.

 (6)  
Tag strut to show status of spare seals, either, "static spare seal used," or, "both dynamic seals used."

Standard Tools and Equipment

 (1)  
Dry air or nitrogen bottle capable of 2500 psi for servicing shock strut

 (2)  
Plastic tool for removing O-rings

 (3)  
Thin strip of metal to use to protect the cylinder surface material when cutting seals

 (4)  
Drip tray

 (5)  
Clean pieces of white cloth, new or laundered, containing less than 0.75% oil and free of silicone (Cloth padding to use to prevent damage to shock strut, when gland nut is unscrewed)
