 S 225-003
 (1)  Measure the distance from the end cap of the damper housing to the head of the damper piston (Fig. 501).
 NOTE: Under normal condition the damper piston head maybe position
____ outside the dimensions shown in Fig. 501. The location of the piston is important when the torque on the apex nut is set in the following steps.
 S 225-004
 (2)  If the head of the damper piston is not within the dimensions or does not come out of the housing, do the following steps:
 NOTE: The head of the damper piston must go through the outer
____ surface of the damper housing before you tighten the apex nut.
 (a)  
Lift the main landing gear on axle jack (AMM 07-11-31/201).

 (b)  
Use a length of wood to turn the wheels around until the piston head will come out of the damper housing.

 (c)  
Turn the lower torsion link until the piston head is within the dimensions shown in Fig. 501.

 (d)  
Remove the lockwire from the lockbolt to the checknut.

 (e)  
Remove the lockbolt and tighten the apex nut of the torsion link 400 to 500 pound-inches.

 (f)  
Loosen the apex nut to zero torque.

 (g)  
Tighten the apex nut to 50-150 pound-inches until the next available hole in the apex nut aligns with a hole in the lockwasher.
