(1) Visually examine the igniter plug for broken or missing parts. Shake the igniter plug for signs of loose parts. Replace the igniter plug, if necessary.

Examine the igniter plug for internal wear and damage.

Examine the center electrode and the outer shell for erosion. If the distance between the edge of the electrode and the inside of the uneroded edge of the ground shell tip exceeds 2.3 mm (0.90 in.), replace the igniter plug. Constant erosion on the electrode and the outer shell is permitted.

(4)
Examine the ceramic insulator for cracks or damaged area. Replace the igniter plug if the ceramic insulator is damaged.

Examine the outer shell for burned or melted metal. Replace the plug if metal is burned or melted.

(6)
Examine the mating flange of the igniter plug for a groove. Replace the igniter plug if it has a groove on one side which has a depth of

0.77 mm (0.03 in.) or more.

Examine the igniter plug electrical connection. Replace the igniter plug if the electrical connection pin is bent or burned.

Examine the part of the igniter plug that has the thread for signs of distortion or damaged threads. Replace the igniter plug if the threads are damaged.

Examine the annular space between the insulator and the outer shell. If clogged, change the igniter plug.
