 3. Job Set-up

 Subtask 49-42-55-010-051
 A. Get Access
 (1)
 Make sure that the third occupant seat is removed (Ref. TASK 25-11-41-000-001).

 (2)
 In the cockpit, on the left lower side of the panel 120VU:

 -make sure that the access door (1) is open.

 (3)
 Make sure that the access platform is in position at the access door 121AL.

 (4)
 Make sure that the access door 121AL is open.

 B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
 (1)
 Make sure that the external power connector is not connected to the aircraft EXT PWR receptacle.

 (2)
 Make sure that the warning notice is in position at the access door 121AL to tell persons not to connect the external power connector.

 (3)
 In the cockpit, on the overhead panel 35VU, make sure that these pushbutton switches are released:

 -APU GEN,
 -BAT 1, BAT 2,
 -GEN 1, GEN 2,
 -EXT PWR.

 (4)
 Make sure that there is a warning notice in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the pushbutton switches on these overhead panels:


 -21VU (EMER ELEC PWR),
 -25VU (APU),
 -35VU (ELEC).

 4. Procedure

 A. Installation of the Start Contactor
 (1)
 Put in position the contactor (3) with the locating hole.

 (2)
 Install the contactor (3) on the tapped barrels (6) of the contactor base (2).

 (3)
 TORQUE the captive screws (5) to between 0.686 and 0.912 m.daN (60.70 and 80.70 lbf.in).

 (4)
 Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors.

 (5)
 Make sure that the electrical connectors are clean and in the correct condition.


 (6)
 Connect the connector (4). Subtask 49-42-55-861-050

 B.
 Energize the aircraft electrical circuits
 (Ref. TASK 24-41-00-861-002).

 C. Do the EIS start procedure (Upper ECAM DU and lower ECAM DU only)

 (4)
 Remove the warning notice(s).

 (5)
 Close the access door 121AL.

 (6)
 Remove the access platform(s).

 AIR - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

 1. General
_______
 The air system has two subsystems:

 -Bleed and Surge Air,
 -
Accessory Cooling.

 A.
 Bleed and Surge Air The bleed and surge-air system controls the supply of the APU bleed air to the pneumatic system of the aircraft and prevents a load compressor surge (Ref. 49-51-00). The bleed and surge-air system supplies the APU bleed air for:

 -
the main engine start,

 -
the air-conditioning. The APU bleed air system, installed in the APU compartment, is made of stainless steel and is fireproof. A hazard will not result if one of the ducts is ruptured. Overheat sensor elements are installed on the bleed air duct, between the APU check valve and the APU bleed control-valve. When the overheat sensor elements detect an overheat condition, the APU bleed control valve will close.
