Remove the cooling fan (3).

Remove the three packings (6), (7), (8). 1) Discard the three packings (6), (7), (8).

Remove the transfer tube (10).
(h)
Remove the two packings (9).
1) Discard the two packings (9).
(i)
Examine the cooling fan (3): 1) Examine the spur gearshaft for cracks and broken or damaged
gear teeth. 2) Examine the cooling fan for cracks and bearing damage. 3) Make sure the cooling fan drive gearshaft sleeve is
installed and the keywasher tabs are installed on the gearshaft bolts. 4) If you find one or more of the above damage, replace the cooling fan and/or the APU (AMM 49-11-01/401).
(j) Make sure you install all necessary protection covers.

CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY.
_______ IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS, DAMAGE TO THE APU CAN OCCUR.
(1)
Do these steps to install the cooling fan (3):
(a)
Clean the mount surfaces and flanges of the cooling fan (3) and load gearbox with a cloth.
(b)
Lubricate the five new packings (6), (7), (8), (9) with a light coat of oil.
(c)
Install the two packings (9) on the transfer tube (10).
(d)
Put the transfer tube (10) in the cooling fan (3).
(e)
Install the packing (6) on the P3 transfer sleeve.
(f)
Apply a light coat of silicone compound to the cooling fan spigot and the faying surfaces of the load gearbox.
NOTE: The cooling fan spigot is the circular grooved area
____ where the packing (7) is installed.
(g)
Install the two packings (7), (8) on the cooling fan.
(h)
Install the cooling fan (3) on the load gearbox.
