 FUEL JETTISON TRANSFER VALVE ADAPTER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure contains instructions to remove and install the adapter that connects the fuel jettison transfer valve body in the inboard main tank with its actuator.
 B.  The valve adapter consists of the adapter plate, index plate and adapter shaft. The index plate and adapter plate are attached to the actuator on the outside of the tank at the rear spar. The adapter shaft extends from the adapter plate through an opening in the rear spar and engages with a receptacle in the valve body. To remove a valve adapter you must enter the applicable main fuel tank and remove the bolts that attach the adapter plate to the rear spar.
 C.  Access to the adapter plate is through the wheel well for the wing landing gear. Access to the adapter bolts is through the fuel tank access door 544AB or 644AB.
 D.  Wing and body gear door locks must be installed when you do maintenance in the wheel well area.

Prepare for the Removal

Make sure the ground locks for the landing gear are installed.

 WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO INSTALL
_______ THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE LANDING GEAR DOORS. THE DOORS CAN CLOSE QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE DOOR LOCKS CORRECTLY. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (2)  
Do this task: Installation of the Door Locks on the Wing Landing Gear (AMM 32-00-30/201).

Do this task: Installation of the Door Locks on the Body Landing Gear (AMM 32-00-30/201).

Defuel the applicable inboard main tank (AMM 28-26-00/201).

Purge and prepare to go into the main fuel tank (AMM 28-11-00/201).

Procedure

 S 024-028
 (1)  
Remove the actuator for the jettison transfer valve in the inboard main tank (AMM 28-31-04/401).

 (2)  
Go into the fuel tank through the access opening 544AB or 644AB (AMM 28-11-00/201).

 (3)  
Do these steps to remove the valve adapter:

 (a)  
Remove the bolts and washers (4 locations) that attach the adapter to the rear spar.

 (b)  
From out of the tank, move the adapter away from the rear spar.

 (c)  
Disengage the adapter shaft spline from the valve body.

 (d)  
Pull the adapter shaft out of the tank through the opening in the spar.

 (e)  
Discard the packing.

 (f)  
Remove all of the old sealant from the rear spar around the periphery of the adapter plate (if sealant was applied).
