C. Procedure

(1) Defuel the applicable fuel tank (AMM 28-26-00/201).

_______ THE FUEL TANKS. INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE SAFETY PROCEDURES.

Purge and prepare to go into the fuel tanks (AMM 28-11-00/201).

For the tank units in the wing tank, remove the additional fuel tank access doors, if it is necessary, to get access to the tank unit (AMM 28-11-02/401).
NOTE: Refer to Fig. 401 for the access.

Go into the fuel tank (AMM 28-11-00/201).

For the tank unit in the center wing tank, remove the spanwise beam access doors (AMM 28-11-09/401).

Remove the nuts (8, 9, and 10) that attach the terminals (11) to the terminal block of the tank unit (4).

Remove the nut (7) and washer (6) that attach the clamp (5) to the terminal block of the tank unit (4).

Remove the clamp (5) and terminals (11) from the tank unit (4).

Remove the bolts (3), washers (2), and nuts (1) (if installed) (four locations) that attach the tank unit (4) to the mounting bracket.

Remove the tank unit (4) from the airplane.

3. Fuel Quantity Tank Unit Installation (Fig. 402)

A. General
(1)
After you replace a tank unit you can use the EICAS maintenance pages to display the capacitance value of the individual tank units (Reference the Dry Tank Capacitance Test) (AMM 28-41-00/501). Although the capacitance check can provide system information, it is not necessary to do this test. The only test that is necessary is the CMCS ground test, <FUEL QUANTITY IND. If the ground test shows a "PASS" indication the fuel quantity indication system is operational. (Reference the Fuel Quantity Indication System Ground Test) (AMM 28-41-00/501).
