 FUEL QUANTITY COMPENSATOR - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure contains instructions to remove and install the fuel quantity compensator. The procedure is the same for all installations, only the location is different.
 B.  One compensator is found in each fuel tank, installed on a bracket at the low point of the fuel tank.
 C.  Access to the compensator is through the applicable fuel tank access door and spanwise beam access doors (center wing tank only).

Defuel the applicable fuel tank (AMM 28-26-00/201).

For the compensator in the center wing tank, remove the spanwise beam access doors, 131AZ and 131BZ (AMM 28-11-09/401).

Remove the nuts (8, 9, and 10) that attach the terminals of the FQIS wire bundle (11) to the terminal block on the compensator (4).

Remove the nut (7) and washer (6) that attach the clamp (5) to the terminal block on the compensator (4).

Remove the clamp (5) and the terminals of the FQIS wire bundle (11) from the compensator (4).

Remove the screws (3), washers (2), and nuts (1) (four locations) that attach the compensator (4) to the mounting bracket.

 3.  Fuel Quantity Compensator Installation (Fig. 401)______________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  
After you replace a compensator you can use the EICAS maintenance pages to display the compensator capacitance value. (Reference the Dry Tank Capacitance Test) (AMM 28-41-00/501). Although the capacitance check can provide system information, it is not necessary to do this test. The only test that is necessary is the CMCS ground test, <FUEL QUANTITY IND. If the ground test shows a "PASS" indication the fuel quantity indication system is operational. (Reference the Fuel Quantity Indication System Ground Test) (AMM 28-41-00/501).
