ENGINE INLET CHECK
1. EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS
A.  PROTECTIVE MAT (2) - RUBBER MANUFACTURER'S ASSOC., GRADE SC43, NEOPRENE SPONGE, 7 INCH THICK, 3 X 4 FEET WITH WARNING STREAMERS ATTACHED
2. CHECK ENGINE INLET FOR DAMAGE (SHEET 2)
A.  CHECK THAT START LEVERS ARE IN CUTOFF POSITION. INSTALL DO-NOT-OPERATE IDENTIFIERS.
B.  INSTALL PROTECTIVE MATS IN LOWER HALF OF INLET COWL.
C.  EXAMINE INLET COWL LIP AND INTERIOR SURFACES FOR INDICATIONS OF FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGE (FOD). IF FOUND, REFER TO STRUCTURAL REPAIR MANUAL (AMM 54-10-01/801) FOR ALLOWABLE LIMITS.
D.  EXAMINE SPINNERS FOR CRACKS. IF FOUND, REPLACE SPINNER (AMM 72-31-01/801). IF MORE THAN 50%OF PROTECTIVE COATING MISSING, REPLACE CONICAL SPINNER FRONT CONE. IF MORE THAN 100% OF THE PROTECTIVE COATING MISSING, REPLACE ELLIPTICAL SPINNER FRONT CONE. THE SPINNER REAR CONE IS PERMITTED TO HAVE UP TO 100% OF TOTAL PROTECTIVE COATING SURFACE DAMAGE (AMM 72-31-01/801). ANY AMOUNT OF DENTS ALLOWED.
E.  CHECK FAN BLADES FOR DAMAGE (FIG. 109).
F.  CHECK 1ST-STAGE STATOR VANE FOR DAMAGE (FIG. 110).
G.  CHECK ABRADABLE SHROUD FOR DAMAGE (FIG. 111).
H.  EXAMINE SPLITTER FAIRING, ACOUSTICAL PANELS, OUTLET GUIDE VANES, AND FAN FRAME STRUTS FOR DAMAGE. IF DAMAGE FOUND, REFER TO AMM 72-33-00/601 I/C FOR INSPECTION LIMITS.
I.  CHECK FAN AIR INLET TO PRECOOLER ON LEFT SIDE OF 12 O'CLOCK FAN FRAME STRUT FOR EVIDENCE OF BIRD INGESTION. IF FOUND, REMOVE PRECOOLER CONTROL VALVE (AMM 36-12-35/401). CHECK VALVE, INLET DUCTING, AND PRECOOLER FOR DEBRIS AND DAMAGE; AND CLEAN/REPAIR/REPLACE AS NECESSARY.
J.  REMOVE MATS AND CHECK FOR LOOSE ITEMS OR TOOLS.
K.  REMOVE DO-NOT-OPERATE IDENTIFIERS FROM START LEVERS.

CAUTION FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTON MAY ALLOW DAMAGE TO INNER SURFACE OF

B. INSTALL PROTECTIVE MATS IN LOWER HALF OF INLET COWL.
C. CHECK FAN BLADES FOR THE FOLLOWING:

FAN TIP SEIZURE IN ABRADABLE SHROUD

(2)
MID-SPAN SHROUD SHINGLING


_______TO AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY TO HANDS, GLOVES SHOULD BE WORN WHEN ROTATING FAN ROTOR
WARNING:
BY HAND.

____ SHINGLING IS DIFFICULT TO DETECT BY VIEWING FAN DIRECTLY FROM FRONT. TO PROPERLYNOTE:CHECK FOR SHINGLING, MID-SPAN SHROUD INTERFACES MUST BE VIEWED WHILE FAN ROTOR IS
ROTATED SLOWLY BY HAND IN NORMAL DIRECTION OF ROTATION.

CRACKS OR TEARS IN ANY SURFACE

LEADING EDGE DISTORTION

(5)
NICKS, DENTS, SCRATCHES AND PITS ON ANY SURFACE
