 DO NOT USE THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO HOLD THE FAN COWL PANEL IF THE WIND VELOCITY IS MORE THAN 60 KNOTS. THE HOLD-OPEN ROD CAN FALL AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  You must retract, isolate, and install placards to the leading edge flaps as follows if you will remove the inboard fan cowl panel:
 NOTE: The procedure that follows is the deactivation for the
____ leading and trailing edge devices. For the deactivation of the leading edge devices only, refer to AMM 27-81-00/201.
 (a)  
Retract the leading edge flaps and install a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag on the flap control lever.

 (b)  
Open these circuit breakers and install a circuit breaker
 lockset:
 1) P6-11 Circuit Breaker Panel

 

 a) STBY HYD PUMP NORMAL
 2) P6-12 Circuit Breaker Panel
 a) STBY HYD PUMP (ALT)

 WARNING: DO NOT MOVE THE "ALTERNATE FLAPS" SWITCH TO THE "ARM"
_______ POSITION BEFORE YOU DEACTIVATE THE STANDBY HYDRAULIC PUMP. IF THE STANDBY HYDRAULIC PUMP IS NOT DEACTIVATED WHEN THE "ALTERNATE FLAPS" SWITCH IS IN THE "ARM" POSITION, THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS CAN EXTEND AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (c)  
Put the ALTERNATE FLAPS switch on the pilots' overhead panel P5 to the ARM position.

 (d)  
Open this circuit breaker and install a DO-NOT-CLOSE tag:

 1)  P6-2 Circuit Breaker Panel
 a) FLAP

 (e)  
Put the ALTERNATE FLAPS switch back to the OFF position.

 (f)  
Make sure the override lever on the trailing edge bypass valve, found on the aft bulkhead of the right main landing gear wheel well, is in the No. 2 position. 1) If the override lever is not in the No. 2 position,

 manually move the lever to the No. 2 position.

(2)  S 024-004-C00If you replace the inboard fan cowl panel, first remove the VCD (AMM 71-11-08/401).
 (3)  S 014-005-C00Open the fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).
 (4)  S 114-006-C00Clean the sealant (if applied) from the fan cowl hinge nuts.
 (5)  S 824-007-C00Make sure the forward center and aft hinges are aligned and the fan cowl hinge hangers will engage the roll pins when the nuts and bolts are removed from the hinges.
 (6)  S 034-008-C00Remove the nuts, washers, and bolts that attach the forward and aft fan cowl hinge fittings to the cowl support beam hinge fittings.
 (7)  S 034-009-C00Remove the nuts, washers, and bolts that attach the two middle fan cowl hinge fittings to the cowl support beam hinge fittings.

 WARNING:_______BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU MOVE THE FAN COWL PANEL. BECAUSE THE RIGHT FAN COWL PANEL WEIGHS 110 POUNDS (50 KG) AND THE LEFT FAN COWL PANEL WEIGHS 90 POUNDS (40 KG), INJURIES TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR.
 (8)  
Disengage the hold-open rod and turn the fan cowl panel until the cowl hinge hangars disengage from the roll pins.

 (9)  
Move the fan cowl panel away from the work area and put it on an applicable surface.
