Move the fan cowl panel to the open position and adjust it to align the holes of the middle hinges.

Lubricate the shanks with grease and install them into the holes of the middle hinges.
NOTE: Do not lubricate the bolt threads with grease.

NOTE: You can apply a maximum preload of 30 pounds (135 N) to the
____ cowl at the hinge locations when you align the forward and aft hinges.

CAUTION:_______INSTALL THE VCD ONLY ON THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL. THE INCORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE FAN COWL VCD CAN CAUSE UNSATISFACTORY AIRPLANE PERFORMANCE.
(1)
If you replaced the inboard fan cowl panel, install the VCD on the replacement panel (AMM 71-11-08/401).

If you replaced the outboard fan cowl panel,make sure the protruding head screws are installed in the fan cowl panel fastener holes.

If the protruding head screws are not installed in the fastener holes, do these steps:
(a)
Open the fan cowl panel (AMM 71-11-02/201).
(b)
Apply sealant (BMS 5-95) to the top mating surface of the washers and the bottom of the screw heads.
(c)
Install the screws, washers, and collars (16 locations each).
(d)
Close the fan cowl panel (Ref 71-11-02/201).
(e)
Make sure the manual starter guide opening is aligned with the manual starter value.

(4) Do the activation for the leading edge flaps as follows or, if only leading edge devices were deactivated (AMM 27-81-00/201):
(a)
Remove the DO-NOT-CLOSE tag and close this circuit breakers: 1) P6-2 Circuit Breaker Panel a) FLAP 2) P6-11 Circuit Breaker Panel a) STBY HYD PUMP NORMAL
