(2) Measure the handle closing force with the dial gage.
NOTE: The handle closing force must be between 40-60 pounds

(3) If the handle closing force is not 40-60 pounds (180-270 newton),
adjust the latch keeper as follows:
(a)
Open the latch handle to the 15 degree free travel position.
(b)
Install the hexagonal wrench through the clearance in the cowl skin into the slotted keeper adjusting wheel.
(c)
Turn the hexagonal wrench aft to increase the latch tension or forward to decrease the latch tension.

If you adjusted the latch keeper, make sure that a minimum thread length of 0.10 inches (2.54 mm) extends more than the keeper housing (Section E-E).

If the thread length does not extend a minimum of 0.01 inches
(2.54 mm), add shims as follows:
(a)
Remove the latch keeper (Ref 71-11-03/401).
(b)
Add a maximum of two shims to get the minimum necessary thread length.
(c)
Install the latch keeper (Ref 71-11-03/401).
NOTE: When you use one or two shims, the latch keeper must be
____ installed with 1 19/64 (|1/64) inch [32.9 (|0.40) mm] length bolts.
G. Flushness Adjustment

(1)
With the latch handle in the fully closed position, make sure the latch handle is aligned with the cowl skin.
(a)
The latch handle must be between +0.03 and -0.06 inches (+0.76 and -1.52 mm) from the surface of the cowl skin.

(2)
If the latch handle is not aligned with the cowl skin, adjust the latch keeper as follows:
(a)
Open the right fan cowl panel (Ref 71-11-02/201).
(b)
Loosen the latch keeper mounting bolts (4 locations).
(c)
Move the keeper up to pull the latch handle into the fan cowl panel.
(d)
Move the keeper down to pull the latch handle away from the fan cowl panel.
(e)
Tighten the mounting bolts (4 locations).
(f)
Do the Latch Tension Adjustment procedure again.
