 WARNING:  DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL PANEL DURING AN ENGINE OPERATION
_______ BECAUSE THE FORWARD LATCHES ARE IN THE HAZARD AREA ZONE OF THE ENGINE INLET. IF YOU GO INTO THE HAZARD AREA, YOU CAN GET PULLED INTO THE ENGINE WITH POSSIBLE FATAL RESULTS.
 BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU OPEN THE FAN COWL PANEL IN HIGH WINDS OR GUST CONDITIONS. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 DO NOT USE THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO HOLD THE FAN COWL IF THE WIND VELOCITY IS MORE THAN 60 KNOTS. THE HOLD-OPEN ROD CAN FALL AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 DO NOT OPEN ENGINE COWL BEFORE THE AREA IS CLEAR. SELECT FLAPS FULL UP AND INSTALL SELECT HANDLE LOCK. INSTALL T/REV MODULE LOCKPIN TRIP AND SAFETY STREAMER BY HYDRAULIC PUMP CIRCUIT BREAKER. IF THESE STEPS ARE NOT TAKEN INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT MAY OCCUR.
 CAUTION:  DO NOT OPEN THE INBOARD FAN COWL PANEL UNLESS THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS ARE DEACTIVATED IN THE RETRACTED POSITION.
 (1)  When you open the inboard fan cowl panel, you must retract, isolate, and install placards to the leading edge flaps as follows:
 NOTE: The procedure that follows is the deactivation for the
____ leading and trailing edge devices. For the deactivation of the leading edge devices only, refer to 27-81-00/201.
 (a)  
Retract the leading edge flaps and install a DO-NOT-OPERATE tag on the flap control lever.

 (b)  
Open these circuit breakers and install a circuit breaker
 lockset:
 1) P6-11 Circuit Breaker Panel

 

 a) STBY HYD PUMP NORMAL
 2) P6-12 Circuit Breaker Panel
 a) STBY HYD PUMP (ALT)

 WARNING:  DO NOT MOVE THE "ALTERNATE FLAPS" SWITCH TO THE "ARM"
_______ POSITION BEFORE YOU DEACTIVATE THE STANDBY HYDRAULIC PUMP. IF THE STANDBY HYDRAULIC PUMP IS NOT DEACTIVATED WHEN THE "ALTERNATE FLAPS" SWITCH IS IN THE "ARM" POSITION, THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS CAN EXTEND AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (c)  Put the ALTERNATE FLAPS switch on the pilots' overhead panel P5 to the ARM position.

(d)  
Open this circuit breaker and install a circuit breaker
 lockset:
 1) P6-2 Circuit Breaker Panel


 a) FLAP

 (e)  
Put the ALTERNATE FLAPS switch to the OFF position.

 (f)  
Make sure the override lever on the trailing edge bypass valve, which is found on the aft bulkhead of the wheel well for the right main landing gear, is in the No. 2 position. 1) If the override lever is not in the No. 2 position,


 manually move the lever to the No. 2 postion.

 (2)  Release the fan cowl panel latches.
 (a)  
Push the middle part of the latch found at the forward edge of the fan cowl panel and lift the handle.

 (b)  
Push the trigger to release the safety catch and pull the handle to release the latches (4 locations) along the fan cowl panel mating halves.

 (3)  Open the fan cowl panel.
 CAUTION: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE AND THE FORCE AT THE
_______ INCORRECT LOCATION. THIS CAN MOVE THE RIGHT FAN COWL AFT AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE THRUST REVERSER SLEEVE.
 (a)  FOR THE RIGHT FAN COWL; It may be necessary to use force to release the cowl from the restraint pins. 1) Use your hand or taps with a rubber mallet at the latch
