sealed to avoid spillage.
(b)
Carefully close the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-02/201).
1) Make sure the plastic bottles and tubing remain connected to the drain tube(s).
(c)
Do the normal engine operation procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(d)
Operate the engine at 70% N1 rpm for 5 minutes.
NOTE: Engine operation at 70% N1 rpm is necessary to
____ pressurize the oil system and to get accurate results during the leakage check.
(e)
Do the normal engine operation procedure to do the engine shutdown (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(f)
Open the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-02/201).
(g)
Remove the plastic bottles and the tubing from the drain tubes.
(h)
Compare the volume in the bottle(s) with the allowable leakage rates given in the tables (Fig. 601, 603, 604 and 605). 1) If the leakage rate is below the servicable limit,
no action is necessary. 2) If the leakage rate is more than the servicable limit, a corrective action is necessary.

CAUTION: FOLLOW THE OPEN COWLING LIMITS GIVEN IN THE NORMAL ENGINE
_______ OPERATION PROCEDURE (AMM 71-00-00/201). DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(a) Do the normal engine operation procedure to start the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
NOTE: Main Engine Controls (MECs) with Viton external seals
____ (CFMI SB 73-84) can have fuel leakage for a short period of time if the MEC is -34 degrees C (-29.2 degrees F) [Modification 1] or below -40 degrees C (-40 degrees F) [Modification 2]. If you see fuel leakage continue the start to idle.
-
If the fuel leakage stops in less than 5 minutes at idle, continue operation of the engine.
-
If the fuel leakage continues after 5 minutes at idle, shut down the engine, and repair the source of the leakage.
(b) Let the engine operation become stable at idle power.
WARNING: KNOW THE HAZARD AREAS GIVEN IN THE NORMAL ENGINE OPERATION
_______ PROCEDURE AND USE THE ENTRY/EXIT CORRIDOR NEAR THE ENGINE (AMM 71-00-00/201). ENTRY INTO A HAZARD AREA COULD RESULT IN SUCTION INTO THE AIR INLET WITH SERIOUS INJURY.
MAKE SURE THERE IS POSITIVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE PERSONS IN FLIGHT COMPARTMENT AND THE PERSONS THAT DO THE LEAKAGE RATE CHECK NEAR THE ENGINE.
(c)
Enter the fan case area through the entry/exit corridor as given in the normal engine operation procedure (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(d)
For each drain tube that you think is the leakage source, find the leakage rate(s).
(e)
Exit the fan case area through the entry/exit corridor as given in the normal engine operation procedure (AMM 71-00-00/201).
(f)
Do the normal engine operation procedure to shutdown the engine (AMM 71-00-00/201).
