POWER PLANT - TROUBLE SHOOTING (ENGINE INDICATION)
__________________________________________________
1. General
_______
A. Engine indicating trouble shooting is provided by trouble trees with corrective actions.
(1) Trouble trees for the N1, N2, EGT and AVM indicating systems are included in this section.
2. Trouble Shooting Tips
_____________________
A. General
(1)
Assure that all circuit breakers applicable to system are closed before beginning trouble shooting. If circuit breakers open during trouble shooting, correct overload by replacing faulty components or repairing wiring before continuing.
(2)
When trouble shooting indicating systems utilizing lights controlled by master dim and test circuits, test operation of indicating lights before beginning trouble shooting.
(3)
Indicators utilizing both numerical counters and scales should be checked during trouble shooting to assure that counter and scale reading agree.
B.
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Indicating System
(1)
Chromel and alumel wire can be identified by wire jacket color (white for chromel and green for alumel). Nuts, bolts and other hardware can be identified by checking magnetism (chromel is non magnetic and alumel is magnetic).
___
C. Airborne Vibration Monitoring (AVM) System
(1)
During engine run or during flight, if AVM system gives consistently higher than normal readings with all other engine indications normal, the possibility of loose or misclamped wiring in strut exists. General inspection of strut area wiring should be made.
(2)
Other conditions to check:
(a)
Ice in fan inlet cone
(b)
Loose pneumatic ducts
(c)
Loose cowling
(d)
Loose thrust reverser components
(e)
Loose engine accessories
