FAN COWL PANEL LATCH - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains the adjustment for the lower latches of the fan cowl panel in (paragraph 2) and the forward latch (paragraph 3).
B. You must adjust the fan cowl latches after a fan cowl panel is replaced. You must adjust the latches after a latch or keeper is replaced.
C. You must adjust the forward latch of the fan cowl panel after a fan cowl panel is replaced.
D. It can be necessary to adjust the fan cowl latches after the fan duct cowl and thrust reverser halves are replaced.

2. Adjust the Fan Cowl Panel Lower Latch (Fig. 501)

A. General
(1)
Three adjustments are given for the fan cowl panel lower latches:
-gap adjustment
-tension adjustment
-flushness adjustment.
(2)
The gap adjustment gives the correct clearance between the right and left cowl panels. The adjustment is made with shims at each latch location.
(3)
The latch tension adjustment gives the correct closing force on the latch handle.
(4)
The flushness adjustment makes the surface between the fan cowl skin and the latch handle aerodynamically smooth when closed.
(5)
These adjustments must be done in the sequence given.
