INLET COWL - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains four tasks as follows:
(1)
The removal of the inlet cowl with a boom and an "A" frame
(preferred method)
(2)
The installation of the inlet cowl with a boom and an "A" frame
(3)
The removal of the inlet cowl with a nose cowl dolly (optional method)
(4)
The installation of the inlet cowl with a nose cowl dolly.
B.
Inlet cowls are directly interchangeable between engine positions.

2. Remove the Inlet Cowl (Boom and "A" Frame - Preferred Method)_____________________________________________________________
A. General
(1)
The removal and installation of the inlet cowl is done with a boom and an "A" frame.
(a)
The boom attaches to the forward strut mount fittings and the "A" frame attaches to the boom.
(b)
A fishpole hoist is used with an inlet cowl sling to let the cowl move in the vertical and longitudinal directions.
(c)
The boom has a pivot at the engine strut fitting and is held by the "A" frame, which includes rollers, to let the inlet cowl move radially.

Boom Assembly - C71002-2,
"A" Frame - C71002-78, and
Tube Assembly - C71002-83
NOTE: Boom assembly (C71002-2), "A" frame

(C71002-78), and tube assembly
(C71002-83) are part of Thrust Reverser
and Cowling Handling Equipment (C71002).
On earlier equipment assemblies, tube assembly (C71002-83) was part of the "A" frame (C71002-78).
(2) Engine Strut Attach Fittings - C71003-2 and -3,
and Attach Pin Assembly - C71003-104
NOTE: Engine strut attach fittings
