D. If all electrical power is removed from the airplane, then the switches are usually set in the position that keeps the emergency lights off and the batteries charged.
(1)
The pilot's switch is set to OFF.
(2)
The attendant's switch is set to NORM.
5. Power Supplies______________
A. Each power supply contains a battery pack and a logic circuit. The power supply slowly charges its batteries with 28 volts dc of electrical power from the No. 1 bus. The batteries then supply 6 volts dc to operate the emergency lights.
(1)
Each power supply can operate eight lights.
(2)
A battery pack that is fully charged will supply electrical power to its emergency lights for a minimum of 10 minutes.
(3)
The power supplies are installed in the areas that follow:
(a)
On or above an entry light
(b)
On an overhead stowage bin
(c)
On an air outlet duct
(d)
Above a lowered ceiling panel
(e)
Behind a sidewall carpet riser.
6. Operation_________
A. The power supplies operate on 28 volts dc of electrical power which comes from the bus No. 1 through a circuit breaker on P18-3 panel.
(1)
The 28 volts dc is supplied to the charging and control logic circuits in each emergency light power supply.
(2)
The battery pack in each power supply is slowly charged when the emergency lights switch on the P5 panel is set to OFF or ARMED.
B. Solid state logic controls the emergency lights through the voltage supplied to the power supplies.
(1)
There is 28 volts dc is connected to pin 2 of each power supply. The emergency lights switches are connected to pins 3 and 4 of each power supply. In the off position of the switches, pins 3 and 4 are grounded. In this usual condition, the power supplies stay off when 28 volts dc is supplied to pin 2.
(a)
The pilot's switch must be set to OFF.
(b)
The attendant's switch must be set to NORM.
(2)
When an emergency lights switch is set to ON, pin 4 is grounded and there is no voltage at pin 3. This condition makes the power supplies come on when there is and when there is not 28 volts dc at pin 2. The battery packs in the power supplies operate the emergency lights in this condition.

(3) When the pilot's switch is set to ARMED, there is no voltage at pins 3 and 4 and there is 28 volts dc at pin 2. The lights come on automatically in the ARMED condition when the 28 volts dc at pin 2 is removed. The emergency lights will stay on until there is 28 volts dc at pin 2 again or until the pilot's switch is set to OFF.
