3. Battery Pack Replacement (Fig. 201)

A. General
(1) Before you install a new battery pack, you can do a test of the power supply with a voltmeter. This is to make sure the power supply will charge the new battery pack.

D. Prepare for the replacement of the battery pack.

(1) Open this circuit breaker and attach a D0-NOT-CLOSE tag:
(a) Load Control Center - Left, P18
1) EMER EXIT LTS AND PWR

(2) Get access to the power supply (SSM 33-51-00).
(a)
For a power supply installed on or above an entry light, lower the hinge panel for the entry light (AMM 25-21-71/401).
(b)
For a power supply installed on an air outlet duct, lower the sculptured ceiling panel below the power supply (AMM 25-21-45/401).
(c)
For a power supply installed on an overhead stowage bin, lower the sculptured ceiling panel above the overhead stowage bin (AMM 25-21-45/401).
(d)
For a power supply installed above a lowered ceiling panel, remove the lowered ceiling panel (AMM 25-21-71/401).
(e)
For a power supply installed behind a sidewall carpet riser, remove the sidewall carpet riser.

CAUTION: YOU MUST CAREFULLY DO THE STEPS IN THE TASK BELOW TO REMOVE THE
_______ BATTERY PACK. A FAILURE TO DO THE STEPS CORRECTLY CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
(3) Do this task to remove the battery pack: "Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive Devices" (AMM 20-40-12/201).
E. Procedure

(1) Remove the battery pack.
(a) Turn the quick-release fasteners counterclockwise.

CAUTION: CAREFULLY REMOVE THE BATTERY PACK FROM ITS POWER SUPPLY.
_______ YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR PINS IF THEY ARE NOT CLEAR BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY.
(b) Carefully move and lift the battery pack away from the power supply.

(2) Install the new battery pack.
(a) If it is necessary to know if the power supply can charge the new batteries, then do this test of the power supply: 1) Connect a resistor between the probes of a voltmeter.
NOTE: Use a 22 ohm, 10 watt resistor.

2) With the voltmeter, make sure there is 8 volts dc between the battery connector pins of the power supply.
(b) Make sure the installation date on the instruction tag attached to the battery pack is not an expired date.
NOTE: Do not remove the instruction tag from the replacement
