LIGHTS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General_______
A. Flight compartment lighting includes general lighting of the flight compartment and special lighting of the control panels, instruments, and controls.
(1)
Electrical power for the lighting is supplied through the P6 and P18 circuit breaker panels.
(2)
Most of the flight compartment lights use 28 volts ac.
(3)
The fluorescent background lights use 115 volts ac.
B. Passenger compartment lighting is supplied with white incandescent lights and white fluorescent lights.
(1)
General lighting is usually supplied with ceiling and sidewall lights.
(2)
In an emergency, general lighting is supplied with emergency lights which operate on batteries.
(a)
The usual operation of the emergency lights is with a switch on the overhead panel, P5.
(b)
In an emergency, a switch on an attendant's panel can make all the emergency lights come on.
(3)
Galley lights, lavatory lights, and entry lights supply lighting to those special areas.
(4)
Threshold lights supply lighting for the areas in front of the doors.
(5)
Each passenger service unit has reading lights.
(6)
Signs give information to the passengers.
C. Cargo and service compartment lighting is supplied with dome and flood lights.
(1)
Where it is necessary, special dome and flood lights are installed which will not cause an explosion.
(2)
All the cargo and service compartment lights use 28 volts ac.
(3)
Switch controls are either multiple or single for each lighting area.
(a) The equipment rack and forward lower service compartment lights, air conditioning compartment lights, and aft accessory compartment lights are controlled by switches in the compartments.

(b)
The forward and aft cargo compartment lights have switches adjacent to the access door.
(c)
The wheel well lights can be controlled on the forward overhead panel and independently in their areas.
D. Exterior lighting is controlled with switches along the lower edge of the pilot's overhead panel, P5. Exterior lighting is supplied with these lights:

Runway Turnoff Lights

Nose Gear Taxi Light
(5)
Steady Position (Navigation) Lights

_______
A. The flight compartment lighting includes general and special types of area lighting. The intensity of the lighting can be changed for the best visual condition.
