1. General
_______
A. There are eight smoke detectors in the forward lower cargo compartment. There are eight more smoke detectors in the aft lower cargo compartment.
B. The procedure applies to all smoke detectors in the lower cargo
compartment.

Remove the detector cover.

Do a check on the inner surface of the smoke detector cell for insects, dirt or water.
NOTE: Such contamination can cause an incorrect failure indication.

(3) Blow out the contamination with the dry compressed air with the pressure less than 15 psig.

(4) S 167-013If water is present, dry the detector with warm, dry air.
(5) S 147-005Remove the contamination found on the smoke detector wall with a soft bristle brush.

WARNING:_______DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS FROM THE SOLVENT. USE RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT FOR PROTECTION IF IT IS NECESSARY. MAKE SURE THERE IS A GOOD FLOW OF AIR IN THE AREA. DO NOT GET THE SOLVENT IN YOUR EYES, ON YOUR SKIN, OR ON YOUR CLOTHING. KEEP SOURCES OF IGNITION AWAY FROM THE AREA. THE SOLVENTS ARE POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
CAUTION: DO NOT PERMIT THE SOLVENTS TO TOUCH PLASTICS, CONTROL CABLES,
_______ LUBRICATED AREAS, DECALS, OR PAINTS. THE SOLVENTS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

Clean the smoke detector wall with solvent trichloroethane 1:1:1 or naphtha.

Do a check on the inner surface of the smoke detectors for scratches or shiny areas.
