 C.  One discharge cartridge (squib) is located on discharge port of extinguisher bottle. When electrically detonated, the cartridge ruptures a retaining disc in the port releasing the extinguishing agent.
 D.  The non-temperature compensated pressure switch detects a decrease in bottle pressure and provides indication of bottle discharge to flight crew annunciator and EICAS. The pressure switch can be manually tested using ground test switch on the fire extinguisher bottle.
 E.  The safety relief valve is a thermal expansion overpressure rupture disc. If the bottle pressure is too high, the safety relief ruptures allowing bottle contents to discharge through the overboard discharge tubing. The filler port is for introducing the extinguishing agent and pressurizing gas into the bottle.
Fire Control Module (Fig. 1)

 A.  The fire control module is located on P5 pilot's overhead panel. The panel contains engine fire/overheat, APU fire, and lower cargo fire detection and extinguishing (AMM 26-21-01/401).
 B.  If a fire condition is detected, the APU fire handle illuminates. Pulling the fire handle in the flight deck, closes both fuel valves, the APU bleed air shutoff valve, trips the generator field and breaker, and arms the fire extinguisher.
Squib Test Module (Fig. 1)

 A.  The squib test module is located on P461 pilot's overhead maintenance panel.
 B.  The squib test module is able to test the engine, APU, and lower cargo compartment fire extinguisher bottle squibs.
 C.  The squib test panel consists of two test buttons, and indicating lights for engine, APU, and lower cargo extinguishing system. The test 1 button tests the APU bottle squib. On airplanes with two APU bottles, the test 1 and test 2 buttons are used to test the squibs. A green indicating light illuminates for a successful test. Press each test indicating light to test each light bulb.

 5. Operation (Fig. 2)

 A. Functional Description
 (1)  
When a fire is detected in the APU compartment, the APU fire switch handle red warning light illuminate and the fire warning bell sounds through the aural warning speakers. When the airplane is on the ground and a fire is detected, the APU warning horn and red APU FIRE light on M869 APU shutdown module also operate.

 (2)  
When the APU fire switch handle is pulled out, the APU automatically shuts down and the extinguishing bottle is armed. The following also happens: the APU generator field relay and generator circuit breaker are tripped; the APU fuel shut-off valve closes; the APU air supply valve closes; and the fire bell and warning lights are all shut off. If the airplane is on the ground, the external fire warning horn and APU fire light on M869 APU shutdown module are also shutoff.
