Remove the fire extinguisher bottle when you do a weight check (AMM 26-21-03/401).

Examine the bottle assembly for damages which include scratches and dents.


 (a)  If there are dents with more than 1/16 inches in depth for each inch of the dent diameter, replace the bottle.
 NOTE: For a dent of one inch in diameter, the maximum
____ allowable depth of the dent is 1/16 of an inch deep. If the dent is of a larger diameter, a greater proportional depth of that dent is allowable at the rate of 1/16 of an inch for every inch of width.

 (b)  If there are scratches with more than 0.004 inches in depth, replace the bottle.
 (6)  S 216-008Examine the mounting lugs for cracks.
 (7)  S 426-009Replace the bottle if the lugs have cracks in them.
 (8)  S 216-010Make sure that each discharge tube fitting is not loose.
 (9)  S 436-011Tighten the fitting if it is necessary.

 WARNING: PUT A PROTECTIVE COVER ON THE SQUIB WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE
_______ ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FROM THE SQUIB. THE SQUIB IS AN ELECTRICALLY FIRED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE. IF THE SQUIB FIRES, THE BOTTLE WILL SUDDENLY RELEASE ITS CONTENTS AND CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

 Make sure the lockwires on the swivel assembly retaining nut, the squib cartridge, and the electrical connector are not damaged.

 Replace the lockwire if the lockwire is loose or damaged.


 (a) Make sure that the nut is tight.

 Examine the electrical wire that is connected to the fire bottle for damaged or worn parts.

 Make sure the routing of the electrical wires through the first support clamp do not have tension on the connector.

 Repair or replace the electrical wire if it is necessary (Ref. Chapter 20 of the Wiring Diagram Manual).

 WARNING:_______ MOVE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE VERY CAREFULLY TO PREVENT AN
 ACCIDENTAL OPERATION.  THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE IS A
 PRESSURIZED CONTAINER.  INJURY TO PERSONS CAN OCCUR IF THE
 BOTTLE ACCIDENTALLY RELEASES ITS CONTENTS.

 (15) Before the bottle is installed, make sure its weight is not more than 0.1 pound from the weight marked on the bottle.
 NOTE: HTL FIRE BOTTLES;
____ The measured weight of the bottle includes the charged bottle, the inspection tag on the bottle, and the swivel assemblies. If the squib cartridge is not installed on the fire extinguisher bottle, do not install it. Weigh the squib cartridges as loose parts. Include the weight of the squib cartridges in the measured weight. If the squib cartridges are installed, weigh the bottle with the cartridges installed. Remove all protective caps when the parts are weighed.
 KIDDE FIRE BOTTLES; The measured weight of the bottle incldues the charged bottle, the inspection tag on the bottle and the protection cap on the container outlet. It does not include the squib cartridges, discharge heads or ground hardware.
