 S 416-001
 (1)  
Access the smoke sampling tube in the lower cargo compartment for the lower cargo compartment smoke detection system.

 (2)  
Do an inspection on the smoke sampling tubes in the lower forward, aft, and bulk cargo compartment.

 (3)  
Visually check that holes on the sampling tubes for obstructions and contamination with dirt.

 (4)  
If the hole is obstructed or contaminated, clean the sampling tube (Ref 26-16-05/701).

 (5)  
Make sure the rubber tubing and shrinkable tubing connectors, end caps and flex hoses are not cracked, worn, or damaged. Replace as necessary.

 A.  This section contains the procedure to clean the smoke detection tubing manifolds in the lower cargo compartment.

Air source - filtered, compressed, 30 psig maximum

 (2)  
Caps - for the inlet tubes on the detectors

Mechanical probe

Tube brush

 (1)  
Remove the pneumatic power (AMM 36-00-00/201).

 (2)  
Remove the applicable cargo lining to get access to the smoke detectors tubes.

Disconnect the sampling manifold from the smoke detectors.

 (4)  
Install caps on the inlet tubes on the detectors.

 (5)  
Remove the manifold tees and the applicable weldment assemblies from the manifold.

 (6)  
Use the soap and water solution and the tube brush to clean the tees and weldment assemblies.

 (a) Flush the tees and weldment assemblies with water.

 (b)  Let the tees and weldment assemblies dry.
 (7)  S 167-008Remove all unwanted material from the ends of the manifold and from the orifices in the manifold.
 (8)  S 167-009Use the mechanical probe to remove all the contamination from the inner wall of the manifold across from the orifices.
 (9)  S 437-010Install the tees in the manifold.

 (10)
 Apply pressurized air to each manifold at the end farthest from the detectors.

 S 217-012

 (11)
 Make sure the rubber tubing and tubing connectors are not worn or damaged.


 (a)  If there are cracks, holes, or damage to the tubing or connectors, replace them.

 Install all weldment assemblies that you removed.

 Remove the caps from the detector inlet tubes.
