A mechanical safety locking device locks the fire handle in its stowed position if the handle is not displaying the red fire warning. The fire handle can be manually unlocked by pressing the lock override button behind the handle.
C.
Rotating the handle left or right discharges bottle A or B and is indicated by the BTL A (or B) DISCH light (amber), located below the fire handle. The handle must be in the center vertical position to be pushed into its stowed position.
4. Squib Test Module (Fig. 4)

A. The squib test module is located on P461 pilots' overhead maintenance panel.
B. The two test switches on the module are used to check extinguisher bottle squib cartridges. When pressed, the module checks circuit continuity between engine discharge switches and squib cartridges. Test switch 1 checks bottle A squibs for all four engines, and test switch 2 checks bottle B squibs for all four engines. The green test lights illuminate for a successful test. Pressing both test buttons simultaneously disables the squib test function resulting in no indication. The test lights may be checked by depressing the individual bulbs and verifying illumination.
5. Operation

A. Functional Description
(1)
When an engine fire is detected, the red warning light on the appropriate fire handle switch illuminates. A solenoid energizes releasing a mechanical interlock on the handle shaft making the handle operable. The mechanical interlock is manually released by pressing the button located behind the handle.
(2)
When an engine fire switch is pulled out, the extinguishing bottles are armed for the respective engine.
(3)
The following also occurs:
(a)
Engine generator field relay and generator circuit breaker are tripped.
