D. Examine the Container Weldment

(1) Do these steps to check the welds on the fire bottles:
(a) Examine the bottle weldment for scratches or dents that can decrease its strength. 1) If you find a dent with a depth more than 1/16 inch
(1.59 mm) per inch (25.4 mm) of average dent diameter,
replace the bottle. 2) If you find a scratch with a depth more than 0.004 inch
(0.10 mm), replace the bottle.

WARNING: KEEP A COVER ON THE DISCHARGE OUTLET OF THE BOTTLE TO PREVENT
_______ DAMAGE TO THE CALIBRATED RUPTURE DISC. SCRATCHES OR DENTS ON THE SURFACE OF THE DISC CAN MAKE IT OPERATE INCORRECTLY. IF THE DISC IS DAMAGED THE BOTTLE CAN ACCIDENTALLY FIRE AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(2) Make sure there is no damage (cracks, breaks, or tears) on the welds.
NOTE: Examine the welds at the mounting lugs carefully.

(3) Use a strong light and magnifying glass to examine the rupture disc for damage or corrosion.
(a) If there is damage or corrosion on the disc, replace the discharge outlet (AMM 26-23-02/401).

(4) Use a strong light and magnifying glass to examine the discharge outlet for damage or corrosion.
NOTE: Ignore stains on the inner surface area of the discharge port

caused by a bottle discharge.
(a) If there is damage or corrosion on the discharge outlet, replace the fire extinguishing bottle. (AMM 26-23-02/401).

(5) Install the fire extinguisher bottle if removed (AMM 26-23-01/401).

LOWER CARGO COMPARTMENT FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task removes the discharge cartridge (squib). The second task installs the squib.
B. The four cargo fire bottles, M6742, M7906, M7907, and M7908 are installed aft of the forward cargo door on the right side of lower cargo compartment. There are two squibs on each fire bottle. The removal/installation procedures for all eight squibs are same.
NOTE: If you replace the squib because it was fired or the disc is
____ damaged, you must also replace the fire extinguishing agent.
