 (3)  S 434-022Install the terminal block screws. (a) Tighten the screws to 20-22 pound-inches.
 (4)  S 434-049Make sure the phase lead terminal lugs are not discolored, deformed or annealed. (a) Replace discolored, deformed or annealed terminal lugs (SWPM 20-30-00).
 (5)  S 434-042Make sure the fanning strip is installed over the phase leads.

 (6)  Make sure the phase identification sleeves are installed on the
 phase leads.

 (7)  Install the phase leads to the terminal block.

 (8)  Install the terminal washers and self locking nuts, self locking
 nuts or Spirolox nut with captive washers as applicable.
 CAUTION:_______ DO NOT PUT ANY WASHERS BELOW THE PHASE LEADS.  IF YOU PUT
 WASHERS BELOW THE PHASE LEADS, THE TERMINAL BLOCK WILL
 BECOME TOO HOT.

 (a)  
Make sure the circular washers are between the terminal nuts and the phase leads.

 (b)  
Tighten the terminal nuts to 144-168 pound-inch.

 NOTE: Use the same torque for self locking nuts with captive
____ washers and self locking nuts that do not have self locking washers.
 (c)  
Use a torque wrench with an adapter to tighten the phase lead nuts (AMM 20-51-01/201).

 (d)  
Make sure the terminal studs do not move when the terminal nuts are tighten. If the terminal studs rotate when terminals are tighten, replace the terminal block.

 NOTE: The torque wrench and adapter will aid in the detection
____ of terminal stud movement or rotation while torque is applied to the terminal stud.

Install the terminal block cover and connect with washers and screws.

 (a)  
Tighten the screws to 20-22 pound-inches.

 (10)
 Make sure the neutral phase ground connection is 0.0001 ohms.

 AC GENERATION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General

 A.  The primary electrical power system consists of four integrated drive generators (IDGs), one installed on each engine, and two ac generators driven by the auxiliary power unit (APU) for ground power operation. Along with engine-driven generators (IDGs) and APU-driven generators, the use of external power is available while on the ground to power the main ac and dc buses. For more information on external power, refer to AC External Power (AMM 24-41-00/001). All generators have a quick attach-detach (QAD) ring for rapid removal and installation. Lightning protectors are provided to attenuate transient voltages.
 B.  The electrical power generating system is designed for automatic operation to minimize flight crew workload. Manual control switches for directing capability is provided for automatic features.
