Install the IDG (1) in the hoist adapter.

CAUTION:_______DO NOT LET THE IDG INPUT SHAFT HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE IDG. TOO MUCH WEIGHT ON THE INPUT SHAFT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEAL ON THE INPUT SHAFT.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU MOVE THE IDG IN A STRAIGHT LINE. TOO MUCH WEIGHT ON THE INPUT SHAFT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SEAL ON THE INPUT SHAFT.

Hold the IDG with the lift fixture (hoist) and the hoist adapter.

Use the lift fixture (hoist) to align the IDG (1) with the QAD ring (46) mounting pad.
(a)
Do not let the input shaft hold the weight of the IDG.

(9) Turn the tension bolt on the QAD ring (46) until the alignment mark on the QAD ring aligns with the mark on the QAD ring adapter plate.

CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL THE IDG CORRECTLY. IF YOU INSTALL THE IDG INCORRECTLY, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE QAD RING AND THE IDG.

Install the IDG:
(a)
Put the IDG (1) input shaft into the gearbox spline.
NOTE: It can be necessary to move the N2 rotor with your
____ hand. The movement lets the splines on the IDG input shaft align with the splines in the gearbox.
(b)
Make sure that the dowel pin on IDG (1) aligns with the hole in the QAD ring (46).
(c)
Align the lugs on the IDG input flange with the openings in the QAD ring.
NOTE: All of the IDG flange lugs will engage in the QAD ring
____ when you install the IDG correctly. The IDG must be square to the QAD ring adapter plate.

(d) Push the hoist adapter straight in until the IDG (1) is in its correct position.
NOTE: If the QAD ring moves off the alignment mark on the
____ adapter plate, you cannot install the IDG. If it is necessary, adjust the QAD tension bolt to keep the marks aligned.

(11) Tighten the tension bolt on the QAD ring:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE QAD RING DOES NOT CATCH WHILE YOU
_______ TIGHTEN THE TENSION BOLT. INCORRECT PRESSURE ON THE QAD RING CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE IDG AND THE QAD RING.
(a) Tighten the tension bolt on the QAD ring (46) to a torque of 240-264 pound-inches (27.1-29.8 N.m).
CAUTION: LIGHTLY HIT THE QAD RING BETWEEN THE 4 O'CLOCK AND THE
_______ 7 O'CLOCK POSITIONS, WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT FROM THE AFT END. IF YOU HIT THE RING IN OTHER LOCATIONS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE QAD RING.
(b)
Use a soft mallet to lightly hit the QAD ring (46) in the area shown on Figure 401.
(c)
Tighten the tension bolt on the QAD ring (46) to a torque of 240 to 264 pound-inches (27.1 to 29.8 N.m.).
(d)
Use a soft mallet to lightly hit the QAD ring (46) in the area shown on Figure 401.
(e)
Examine the torque value of the tension bolt on the QAD ring (46). 1) If the torque is less than 180 pound-inches (20.3 N.m.),
tighten the tension bolt to 240 to 264 pound-inches
(27.1 to 29.8 N.m.).
(f)
Continue to lightly hit the QAD ring and tighten the tension bolt, until you measure a minimum torque value of 180 pound-inches (20.3 N.m.).
(g)
Tighten the tension bolt on the QAD ring (46) to a torque of 240 to 264 pound-inches (27.1 to 29.8 N.m.).
(12)
Remove the hoist adapter from the IDG (1).
