If the screw removal tool is not available do these steps (Fig. 403): 1) Hit the QAD attachment screws with a flat punch. 2) Use a pointed punch to remove the screw.

If the screws are not removed, use a screw extractor to remove the screws.

Remove the QAD ring.

Procedure
S 424-016
(1) Install the QAD ring.
CAUTION:_______DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH OIL. THE OIL CAN CAUSE A HYDRAULIC EFFECT IN THE DOWEL PIN HOLES. DAMAGE TO THE GEARBOX CAN OCCUR WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE BOLTS.
(a) Apply a thin layer of oil to these areas:
1) Around the bolt holes on the gearbox 2) Around the holes on the gasket side of the QAD ring (oil is applied from the holes to the inner edge of the QAD ring).
CAUTION:_______DO NOT APPLY TOO MUCH ANTI-SEIZE. THE ANTI-SEIZE CAN CAUSE A HYDRAULIC EFFECT IN THE BOLT HOLES. DAMAGE TO THE GEARBOX CAN OCCUR WHEN YOU TIGHTEN THE BOLTS.
(b)
Apply a thin coat of anti-seize to the threads and under the head of the bolt.
(c)
Put the QAD ring and the gasket (with the gasket on the gearbox side) in their positions on the main gearbox.
(d)
Align the QAD ring to make sure the word "TOP" on the adapter plate is at the 12 o'clock position.
(e)
Install the eight bolts that attach the QAD ring to the gearbox.
(f)
Tighten the QAD bolts in 2 steps as follows (Fig. 402): 1) Tighten the bolts in a star pattern and initial torque of 135-150 pound-inch.
2) Tighten the bolts in a star pattern and torque to a final torque of 276-300 pound-inches (31.2-33.9 N.m.).

CAUTION:_______ CLEAN THE EXCESS THE ANTI-SEIZE FROM THE QAD ADAPTER PLATE. THE ANTI-SEIZE MIXED WITH IDG OIL MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE IDG.
3) Use a clean dry cloth to wipe the excess anti-seize from the QAD.
(2) S 414-013Install the IDG (AMM 24-11-01/401).
(3) S 414-014Close the left thrust reverser half (AMM 78-31-00/201).
