3. Generator Field Manual Reset Module (Fig. 1)
___________________________________
A. Switches are provided on the generator field manual reset module for manually resetting and monitoring the integrated drive generators and auxiliary power unit generators field exitation. Also, a split system breaker switch is provided to manually operate the split system breaker.
(1)
The generator field manual reset (GEN FIELD MAN RESET) switches are momentary action, guarded switches. Actuation alternately opens or closes the generator field if the GEN CONT switch is in the released (OFF) position. APU 1 and 2 switches open or close the APU generator fields.
(2)
The split system breaker switch is a momentary action, guarded switch. Actuation allows the electrical power system IDGs to operate as a paralled system or to split the sync buses into two independent halves and is operative in the ground mode.
4. Generator, Bus Tie, Split System, and Auxiliary Power Breakers (Fig. 3)
______________________________________________________________
A. Power breakers are installed in the electrical power system to operate and control electrical power between the IDGs, APU generators, ac buses, and the ac sync buses.
(1)
The integrated drive generators (IDGs) may operate separately to supply their respective load buses through the generator circuit breakers (GCB), or they may operate in parallel through the bus tie breakers (BTB) and the split system breaker (SSB) to provide equal load sharing. The IDGs may also operate as two parallel systems with the GCBs and BTBs closed and the SSB open. In normal system operation, the four IDGs operate in parallel.
(2)
The auxiliary power unit generator channels may be used to supply the load buses through the auxiliary power breakers (APB). The auxiliary power generator channels cannot be paralleled through the SSB.
5. Operation (Fig. 3)
_________
A. Functional Description
(1) The GEN CONT switches trip the generator control relay (GCR) inside the generator control unit (GCU) (Ref 24-23-00), which in turn trips the generator circuit breaker (GCB) (when placed in the OFF position) and closes the GCB (when placed in the ON position). When the GCB is tripped, either automatically or when the GEN CONT switch is placed in the OFF position, the OFF lamp in the GEN CONT switches comes on. When the GCB is closed, the ON lamp in the GEN CONT switches comes on and the OFF lamp goes off. If a fault causes system protective circuitry to trip the GCB and the fault condition persists, the GEN CONT switch cannot close the GCB.
