SUPPLEMENTAL HEATING SYSTEMS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

General
_______
A. The supplemental heating systems consist of the flight crew foot heaters and shoulder heaters.
B. Air from adjacent zone distribution ducts flows into branch ducts which feed flight crew shoulder area outlets. Air heaters installed in these branch ducts can be selected on to provide heat for the flight crew comfort.
C. Radiant heaters are built into the flight crew foot rests. The captain
and first officers heaters can be operated independently.Flight Crew Shoulder Heaters

A. The flight crew shoulder heaters are canister styled heaters with two thermal switches built into each heater. A control switch which opens at 185°F (85°C) and an overheat switch which opens at 400°F (204°C).
Flight Crew Foot Heaters

A. The flight deck foot heaters are pad heaters with two thermal switches built into each heater. A control switch which opens at 75°F (24°C) and an overheat switch which opens at 150°F (65°C).
Operation

A. Functional Description
(1) The flight crew foot heaters are radiant pad heaters installed on the Captains and First Officers heal rests. The shoulder heaters are canister style air heaters with built in thermal switches which will open the heater control circuit in the event of an overheat condition. Both the foot and shoulder heaters will only operate when the air ground relay system is in air mode and when selected on. With the selector switch set to low one leg of the 115 vac 3-phase power is applied to the heater coil. With the selector switch set to high two legs of the 115 vac 3-phase power are applied to the heater coil.
B. Control
(1) For heater operation electrical power must be on and the air ground relay system must be in the air mode. The foot heaters and shoulder heaters are selected to low or high on the heater control module located on the Captain and First officers auxiliary panels (P44 and P45).
