Remove the assist springs (5) (6) (7) and fuselage hinge torque tube from the fuselage as follows:
(a)
Remove the bolt (26), washer (27), bushing (21), washer (18), washer (20), and nut (19) that attach the lower fuselage hinge torque tube (22) and sleeve (8) to the lower hinge spigot (9).
(b)
Remove the bolt (26), washer (27), bushing (21), washer (18), washer (20), and nut (19) that attach the upper fuselage hinge torque tube (31) and sleeve (4) to the upper hinge spigot (11).
(c)
Put marks on the spigots to show the location of the torque tubes assembly.
NOTE: These marks help the subsequent installation.

1) Make a mark on the top spigot to show the position of the top torque tube. 2) Make a mark on the bottom spigot to show the position of the bottom torque tube.
(d)
Move the torque tube assembly away from the spigots.
(e)
AIRPLANES WITH TWO PIECE TORQUE TUBE; Push the torque tubes (22) (31) together.
(f)
Remove the lower assist spring (7) and sleeve (8) from the lower torque tube (22).
(g)
Remove the torque tube, sleeves (4) (10), and center assist spring (6) from the opening in the fuselage structure.
(h)
Remove the S-12 stop fitting (35) from the lower torque tube (22).
(i)
Remove the upper assist spring (5) from the S-11 stop fitting.
(j)
Remove the torque tube assembly from the airplane.

CAUTION:_______OBEY THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR THE ASSIST SPRINGS. THE DOOR WILL NOT OPERATE PROPERLY IF THE SPRINGS ARE INCORRECTLY INSTALLED.
(1)
If it is necessary, assemble the fuselage hinge torque tube and center assist spring (6) as follows:
(a)
Apply a light layer of grease, BMS3-33 to the mating surfaces of the torque tube before installation.
(b)
AIRPLANES WITH TWO PIECE TORQUE TUBE; Put the lower fuselage hinge torque tube (22) into the upper fuselage hinge torque tube (31).
(c)
Put the center sleeve (10) over the torque tube.
(d)
Put the center assist spring (6) over the center sleeve (10).
NOTE: The closed end of the coil in the middle of the

spring (6) must point forward.
(e) Put the upper sleeve (4) over the upper torque tube (31).

(2)
Install the torque tube, and assist springs (5) (6) (7) in the fuselage as follows:
(a)
Put the upper assist spring (5) in position above the S-11 stop fitting.
NOTE: The coil that holds the bolt (30) is in the down

position and must point aft.
