Procedure

 (1)  
Prepare to install the cargo compartment door.

 (a)  
Remove these items from the initial door: 1) the lanyard assembly 2) the counterbalance assembly 3) the balance mechanism cable 4) the 2 doorstops (on the bottom edge of the aft door only) 5) The doorstop pins and spring locks

 12 locations on the forward door 10 locations on the aft door 6) the door seals

 (b)  
AFT CARGO DOOR; Install the two doorstops on the bottom edge of the door.

 (c)  Install the stop pins with a thin layer of corrosion preventive compound on the two internal and external surfaces of the mating threads.
 NOTE: There are 12 stop pins on the forward door.
____ There are 10 stop pins on the aft door.
 (d)  Remove the roller stop fittings, serrated plates, and shims from the doorframe (2 locations).
 NOTE: The door warning switch must be disconnected from
____ the forward roller stop fitting. You must also collect and identify the shims for installation.
 (e)  
Remove the centering pads and shims from the doorframes (2 locations).

 (f)  
Apply organic corrosion inhibiting compound to the door areas.

 (2)  If it is necessary, attach the hinge arms to the fuselage structure:
 NOTE: The hinge arms may not have been removed from the fuselage
____
 during the removal.

 (a)  Use shims to make the distance between the bearing plates from
 0.68 to 0.70 inches.

 (3)  
Put the door in its correct position in the door opening.

 (a)  
Make sure the center of the stop pins are not more than 0.15 inch from the center of the stop pads (Fig. 401, View B-B).

 (b)  
Adjust the stop pins until the door is within the flushness tolerances shown in figure 403.

 (c)  
Attach the hinge arms to the door.

 (d)  
Install shims between the door and the hinge arm as it is necessary.

Keep the door in its position and adjust the door to get the correct flushness.

 (f)  
Observe any special bolt installation instructions.

 WARNING: ALWAYS USE A DOOR SUPPORT BRACE THAT HAS A RED COLOR TO KEEP
_______ THE DOOR OPEN WHEN THE BALANCE MECHANISM AND SNUBBER ARE DISCONNECTED. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONS NEAR THE DOOR.
 (4)  
Install the door support brace.

Install the snubber.

 (a)  
Put the door in its position as it is necessary.

 (b)  
Connect the snubber to the bracket on the door with the bolt.

 (c)  
See that the snubber does not let the door move quickly to the closed position.

Install the door balance mechanism (Ref. 52-31-12/401).

 (7)  
Adjust the centering guides (2 locations).

 (a)  
Install the centering pads on the door frame.

 (b)  
Remove or install shims to adjust the roller clearance.

 (c)  
Make sure the roller can turn at all times and that the clearance is not more than 0.02 inch.
