5. Stop Fitting Repair (Fig. 803)

A. General
(1)
You can repair cracks that are less than 45 degrees away from the centerline of the door stop fitting. If the crack is not in this area, you must replace the stop fitting.
(2)
Do this repair task only if you can easily remove the bearing plate from the stop fitting. If you cannot easily remove the bearing plate, then replace the stop fitting.
NOTE: Some of the bearing plates have an interference fit in

the stop fitting.
B. Standard Tools and Equipment
(1)
Saw to cut a 0.06 +/-0.01 inch slot in the door stop fitting
(2)
Spotface tool with diameter 0.002 to 0.012 inch larger than the bearing plate

Remove the bearing plate.

Examine the crack.
(a)
Make sure the crack is less than 45° from the centerline of the stop fitting.
(b)
Make sure the crack stops at or before the hole of the door stop fitting.
