 (Fig. 402).
 a)  Open the door.
 b)  Remove the screws from the seal retainer.
 c)  Use a BAC1521-585 to make a shim that is the correct
 length.
 d)  Put the shim in the correct location.
 e)  Hold the ends of the shim with a clip (Fig. 402).
 f)  Install the screws in the seal retainer.

 g) Close the door.
 h) Move a light around the outboard edge of the door.
 i) Make sure you can not see light through the seal.

 (e) Remove the shims from the stop fittings.

Open the hatch sufficiently to install the seal.

 (2)
Put the seal on the hatch.

 (a)
Make the flange of the seal face inboard.

 (b)
Make holes in the flange of the seal.

 1)  Make the holes align with the holes in the edge of the hatch.

 (c)
Put the seal retainer on the flange of the seal.

 (d)
Install the screws through the seal retainer and the seal.

 (e)
Tighten the screws to compress the flange of the seal.

 (3)
Close the hatch.

 DIAPHRAGM-MECHANICAL SEALS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  A Diaphragm-Mechanical Seal is a one-piece seal. Part of it is a flap-type seal and part of it is a diaphragm seal. The flap-type seal goes around the edge of the door. The diaphragm seal is between the door and the gates. The Forward Galley Service Door, Aft Entry Door and Aft Galley Service Door have these seals.
 B.  This procedure contains two tasks:
 (1)  
The removal of a Diaphragm-Mechanical Seal

 (2)  
The installation of a Diaphragm-Mechanical Seal.

 C.  
This procedure refers to the Diaphragm-Mechanical seal as "the seal".

 D.  
Refer to 52-09-10/801 to repair the seal.
