FLAP TYPE MECHANICAL SEALS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks:
(1)
The removal of the seal that is around the edge of a door
(2)
The installation of the seal that is around the edge of a door.
B.
This procedure refers to these seals as the "flap-type seals". Flap-type seals are on the the forward and aft cargo doors, the equipment access door and the forward access door.

(1)
Open the door sufficiently to remove the flap-type seal.

(2)
Pull the edge of the flap-type seal out of the seal retainer.
S 024-004-B00
(3)
Continue to pull the flap-type seal out of the seal retainer until it is off the door.

C. Procedure
S 424-006-B00
(1) Hold the flap-type seal against the seal retainer on the door.
S 424-007-B00
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU INSTALL THE FLAP-TYPE SEAL.

IT IS EASY TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAP-TYPE SEAL.
(2)
Install the flap-type seal in each corner of the door.
(a)
Put the inboard (longer) flange of the flap-type seal into the inboard side of the seal retainer.
(b)
Use the special tool to push the outboard (shorter) flange of the flap-type seal into the outboard side of the seal retainer.
NOTE: Hold the special tool 90 degrees to the seal retainer.

(3) Use the special tool to push the outboard edge of the flap-type seal into the seal retainer.
NOTE: Liquid soap is a good lubricant for the flap-type seal.
