5) Use Procedure B with Type I, Type II, or Type III adhesive to bond the damaged seal (Fig. 802).

Repair a damaged blade seal (3.0 inches maximum length)(Fig. 802).
(a)
Repair the area if it is not necessary to replace the damaged section. 1) Cut a piece of Dacron fabric to make a 0.5 inch overlap on
the edges of the damaged areas. 2) Use Procedure B with Type II or Type III adhesive to bond the damaged seal. 3) Make sure the patch is on both sides of the seal within
0.25 inch of the seal retainer.
4) Make sure the edge of the patch is not on the flat part of the seal.
(b) Repair the area when part of the seal is not there. 1) Remove the damaged edges of the seal. 2) Cut a similar section of a spare seal to patch the seal. 3) Cut a piece of Dacron fabric to make a 0.5 inch overlap on
the edges of the splice areas. 4) Use Procedure C with Dacron fabric and Type II or Type III adhesive to bond the piece of replacement seal to the seal. 5) Make sure the patch is on both sides of the seal within
0.25 inch of the seal retainer.
6) Make sure the edge of the patch is not on the flat part of the seal.

Repair damaged splices on the seal.
(a)
Prepare the surfaces to be repaired, two inches on the two sides of the splice.
(b)
Cut a piece of Dacron fabric 2.0 inches wide, and sufficiently long to wind fully around the seal.
(c)
Apply Type II or Type III adhesive with a brush to the cleaned surfaces of the seal.
(d)
Push the fabric into the wet adhesive and wind the fabric fully around the seal.
(e)
Push the fabric into the contours.
(f)
Apply more thin layers of adhesive by brush.
NOTE:____Do not use too much adhesive. Too much adhesive makes the edge of the seal stiff and rigid.
(g)
Make sure the edges of the patch are smooth.
(h)
Make sure the seal is smooth and flat.

Replace a damaged section of a seal.
(a)
Remove the damaged section of the seal.
1) Make sure the ends of the repair are on flat parts of the seal.

(b)
Replace the damaged area with a section of a spare seal that is the same length.
(c)
Make a splice to hold the new section of the seal. 1) Prepare two inches of the surface on each side of the
splice. 2) Make mitered cuts on the adjacent seal surfaces. 3) Fill the mitered cuts with Type II or Type III adhesive. 4) Use Procedure B and Procedure C to bond the splices.

A. This procedure contains two tasks:
(1)
The removal of the seals that are between the door and the door gates
(2)
The installation of the seals that are between the door and the door gates.

This procedure refers to these seals as "diaphragm seals".
