 (1)
The PBE give the cabin attendants protection from smoke and dangerous gases.

 (2)
A PBE is made up of the following components:

 -
A hood with breathing bag protection, a relief valve, a visor and a neck seal

 -
A KO2 cartridge with starter, a relief outlet and a breathing bag

-An inner mask with anti-suffocation valve, straps and a speech
transmitter. The hood with the visor encloses, when put on, the head of the user. The straps of the mask are attached to the hood. The opening for the neck is sealed. The hood also gives protection in the breast area. This protective part includes the KO2 cartridge with the breathing bag itself.
 (3) The chemical oxygen generator will supply oxygen to the hood for approximately twenty minutes.

R  B. Full-Face Smoke Masks
R  (1) The full-face smoke masks give the cabin attendants protection from
R  smoke and dangerous gases. Each full-face smoke mask is connected to
R  the uncalibrated flow connection (identified 'LO') on a portable
R  oxygen cylinder.
R  (2) A full-face smoke mask is made up of the following components:
R  - a moulded-rubber face piece with a panoramic visor,
R  - an adjustable harness,
R  - a demand regulator,
R  - an adjustable purge valve,
R  - a flexible supply hose with a connector.
R  (3) The demand regulator has an overpressure valve to supply oxygen at a
R  positive pressure, when necessary. The regulator will supply oxygen
R  at the following volume rates and suction pressures.
R  (a) A minimum of 48 l/min (17 cubic ft/min) (NTPD) at a suction
R  pressure of 0.2 bar (2.9007 psi).
R  (b) A minimum of 100 l/min (35 cubic ft/min) (NTPD) at a suction
R  pressure of 0.254 bar (3.6839 psi).

 4. Operation
_________
 **ON A/C 001-049, 101-105, 301-399,
 A. Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE) The PBE is a self contained device. It has a supply of breatheable gas. This supply adds oxygen to a closed circuit of breathe to renew the expired air. The oxygen is made by an exothermic chemical effect. The KO2 of the cartridge effects with the CO2 and the humidity of the expired air.
 **ON A/C 051-099,
 A. Smoke Hood
 (1)
Operation When donned, the annular container in the hood releases the amount of oxygen the user needs in sustained activity. The gas circulates when the user breaths in and out. The gas circulation makes sure the hood operates. The user hears a slight noise when the oxygen flows. When the noise of the oxygen flow stops the hood should no longer be used. The hood has two compartments. One compartment is for the head of the user, the other is used as a lung. During inspiration some gas flows from one compartment to the other through the absortion system. The absortion system traps the carbon dioxyde contained in the expired gas through a layer of soda lime. A pressure control valve prevents an increase of pressure in the hood (set pressure 2 mbar). A phonic membrane allows the user to communicate easily.

 (2)
Indicating When the equipment is in the serviceable condition, the condition-indicator is green. When the condition indicator is red the equipment is no longer serviceable.
