OUTFLOW VALVE HEATED GASKET - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

1. General_______
A. This procedure has three tasks for the outflow valve heated gasket. The first task is the adjustment/test of the gasket. The second task is the removal of the gasket. The third task is the installation of the gasket.
B. The outflow valve is in the equipment bay of the aft cargo compartment. The gasket for the outflow valve seals the valve to the airplane structure. The gasket has a heating element, a thermostat, and an overheat fuse. The gasket supplies heat during flight at high altitudes in order that the valve will not freeze in the closed position.
C. The P6-4 circuit breaker panel supplies 115v ac power to the gasket. The thermostat keeps the temperature of the area between 40|5°F (4.4|2.7°C) and 70|5°F (21.1|2.7°C). The overheat fuse will open if the gasket temperature gets to approximately 165|5°F (73.9|2.8°C).

(1) Source of cold air or ice (to cool the gasket thermostat to approximately 35°F (1.7°C))
