PRESSURE EQUALIZATION VALVES - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General

A. A pressure equalization valve is in the aft bulkhead of each cargo compartment. The valves are almost the same. Because of small differences in their spacer rings, the valves are not interchangeable.
B. In the forward cargo compartment, the pressure equalization valve is on the left panel of the aft bulkhead. You can remove the pressure equalization valve after you remove the panel. In the aft cargo compartment, remove the access panel in the center of the aft bulkhead. You can then get access to the parts that hold the valve on the left panel of the aft bulkhead.
C. This procedure has two tasks. The first task gives instructions for the removal of a pressure equalization valve. The second task gives instructions for the installation of a pressure equalization valve. The two tasks are applicable to the two valves.

(1) Remove the bulkhead panels:
(a)
In the forward cargo compartment, release the fasteners for the left panel of the aft bulkhead.
(b)
In the forward cargo compartment, remove the panel with the pressure equalization valve.
(c)
In the aft cargo compartment, remove the access panel in the center of the aft bulkhead.

Remove the screws that hold the grille to the bulkhead panel and remove the grille.
(3)
Remove the screws that hold the valve to the bulkhead panel.
(4)
Remove the valve from the bulkhead panel.
