SAFETY RELIEF VALVE - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

1. General
_______
A. This subject has two tasks. The first task is a functional test of the safety relief valve using a Hamilton Standard test fixture. The second task is a functional test of the safety relief valve using Boeing test equipment.
B. The test decreases pressure at the external pressure port to the valve to give a signal of high cabin pressure.

2. Test Safety Relief Valve Using Hamilton Standard Test Fixture (Fig. 501)

A. Equipment
(1)
GS15047-1 Valve Test Fixture, Hamilton Standard
(2)
Shop Air or commercially available pressure source.
B. Access
(1) Location Zone
220 Aft Cargo Compartment Equipment Bay
C. Procedure
S 845-002
(1) Prepare for the test:
(a)
Close the pressure regulator on the valve test fixture.
(b)
Connect the air source to the pressure regulator on the valve test fixture.

(2) Do the test:
(a)
Put the valve test fixture on the safety relief valve on the fuselage.
(b)
Put the locating crossbar on the valve test fixture forward of the deflector tube on the safety relief valve and hold the fixture in position.
NOTE: The fixture is installed to make sure that the test
____ fixture gasket is not on the opening in the valve.
(c) Open the air pressure regulator on the valve test fixture to start the flow of air.

(d)
Adjust the air pressure regulator so that the indication on the vacuum gage increases 4.5 inch Hg/minute until the vacuum gage shows 15.8 inch Hg.
(e)
When the vacuum gage shows 15.8 inch Hg, adjust the air pressure regulator to increase the vacuum in 0.1 inch Hg increments.
(f)
Stop the increase of vacuum for 10 seconds between each increase of 0.1 inch Hg.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET THE VALVE TEST FIXTURE FALL DURING THE TEST.
_______ WHEN THE SAFETY RELIEF VALVE OPENS, THE FORCE ON THE FIXTURE WILL INCREASE. IF THE VALVE TEST FIXTURE FALLS, THE FIXTURE WILL BE DAMAGED.
(g)
Continue the intermittent vacuum increases of 0.1 inch Hg until the valve opens.
(h)
Monitor the indication on the vacuum gage when the valve opens.
NOTE: The valve must open between 16.8 and 17.8 inches Hg
____ (8.25 and 8.74 psi).
(i)
Close the pressure regulator on the valve test fixture.
