 VENT MUFFLER - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. The first task gives instructions to clean the vent muffler. The second task gives instructions to repair the vent muffler.
 B.  The air velocity through the vent muffler can increase if the vent muffler shell has contamination or cracks. This can cause noise levels to increase.

 2.  Vent Muffler Cleaning

 B.  Procedure
 S 012-002
 (1)
Remove the ceiling panel to get access to the vent muffler.

 S 022-003

 (2)  
Remove the vent muffler.

 (3)  
Push a wooden cylinder plug through the vent muffler.

 S 142-004
 NOTE: The plug diameter must be smaller than the orifice diameters
____
 of the muffler.

 S 142-005
 (4)  Push the plug through the ducts which connect to the vent muffler if it is necessary.

Remove the ceiling panel to get access to the vent muffler.

Remove the vent muffler.

 (3)
Use the solvent, BMS 3-2, to clean the crack in the vent muffler.

 S 362-012

 (4)
Apply the vinyl tape to the crack.

 NOTE: The tape must make a 2 inch overlap on all sides of the

 crack.

Install the vent muffler.

 (6)
Install the ceiling panel.
