 16. Duct Replacement - Duct with Fiberglass Insulation and Flame-Resistant
______________________________________________________________________ Covering (Fig. 203)

 A. General
 (1)  This procedure gives instructions to replace an air conditioning duct with fiberglass insulation (BMS 8-142) with flame-resistant covering (BMS 8-142) with an air conditioning duct with Polyimide foam insulation (BMS 8-300).
 B. Consumable Materials
 (1)  Air conditioning duct with Polyimide foam insulation

 D. Prepare for the Repair
 S 862-231
 (1)  Release the pressure from the pneumatic system (AMM 36-05-00/201).
 NOTE: This will make sure that there is no airflow in the ducts

 when you do the repair.

 (2)  
On the bleed air control module on the pilots' overhead panel, P5, put the pack control switches in the OFF position.

Remove the applicable ceiling, sidewall, or floor panels to gain access to the damaged air conditioning duct joint.

 (4)  
Remove the air conditioning duct with fiberglass insulation and flame-resistant covering.


 E. Install the Duct with Polyimide Foam Insulation
 S 412-235
 (1)  Install a new section of duct insulated with the Polyimide foam insulation (BMS 8-300) (Fig. 203).
 F. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

 (1)  Replace the panels or other airplane structure removed to gain access to the duct joint.

 OVERHEAD DISTRIBUTION DUCT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. The first task gives instructions for the removal of the overhead distribution ducts. The second task gives instructions for the installation of the overhead distribution ducts.
 B.  Do not remove the tape at the duct joints. You can cause damage to the ducts if you remove the tape from the duct joints.

 2.  Overhead Distribution Duct Removal (Fig. 401)

 A.  Access
 (1)  Location Zone
 100 Upper Half of Fuselage

 B.  Procedure
 S 014-002
 (1)  
Remove the ceiling panels to get access to the ducts.

 S 034-003

 (2)
Remove the screws which hold the air outlet adapter to the duct.

 S 034-004

 (3)  
Remove the conditioned air outlet, the baffle and the seal from the duct.

 (4)  
Put a piece of sheet metal between the top of the duct and the ceiling insulation.


 NOTE: This will help to prevent damage to the ceiling insulation

 when you cut the duct tape.

 (5)  Cut through the duct tape at the duct joints.
 NOTE: To prevent damage to the duct, do not remove the tape from

 the ducts.
