 11. Tape Replacement - Duct with Polyimide Foam Insulation (Fig. 203)
______________________________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  This procedure gives instructions to replace adhesive tape on air conditioning ducts insulated with Polyimide foam insulation (BMS 8-300). The Polyimide foam insulation has a flame-retardant Hypalon covering that is bonded to its outer surface and is distinguished by its brown color. The Polyimide foam insulation is wrapped around the duct and held in place with adhesive tape.
 B. Consumable Materials
 (1)  
Insulation - Polyimide Foam (BMS 8-300)

 (2)  
Tape - Pressure sensitive adhesive (BMS5-149, Type XI, Class 1, Grade C)

 (a)  Product Designation 78-C or 70-1C

 (3)  
Solvent - B01011, Series 91 - commercially available (AMM 20-30-91/201)

 (4)  
Wiping cloth, lint free - commercially available

 D. Prepare for the Repair

 (1)  Release the pressure from the pneumatic system (AMM 36-05-00/201).
 NOTE: This will make sure that there is no airflow in the ducts

 when you do the repair.

On the bleed air control module on the pilots' overhead panel, P5, put the pack control switches in the OFF position.

Remove the applicable ceiling, sidewall, or floor panels to gain access to the damaged air conditioning duct joint.

 (4)  
Remove the duct if needed for better access.

 (5)  
Remove all loose or old tape from the insulation.

_______ SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE SOLVENTS. SOLVENTS ARE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. SOLVENTS MAY BE FLAMMABLE OR HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. REFER TO PRODUCT MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER HANDLING PROCEDURES.
 (6)  Use the solvent and a wiping cloth to clean the surface of the insulation where new adhesive tape will be installed.
 E. Replace the Tape

 (1)  Install new adhesive tape (BMS 5-149) to the insulation as shown in Figure 203.
 (a)  Make sure the adhesive tape overlaps all the edges and seams of the insulation by a minimum of 1-inch.
 F. Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition

Reinstall the duct (if removed).

 (2)  
Replace the panels or other airplane structure removed to gain access to the duct joint.

 (1)  This procedure gives instructions to repair cuts or tears in the insulation on air conditioning ducts with Polyimide foam insulation (BMS 8-300).
